  Summer Internship at HIL Limited

  "I asked for a project that would help me test my skills but I got a project that helped me develop new ones"

  I entered the Summer Internship Program’14 at CK Birla with an absolutely open mind, not knowing what to expect and what was there in store for me. My project was primarily focussed on the market assessment for SWR pipes in Advanced Polymer Products (APP) in certain geographies. Little did I know that I would actually travel to all the markets during these eight weeks spanning the program?
  The real time interaction with the different stakeholders in about 22 micro markets across 3 different states has left me with a greater understanding of the dynamics of these markets. The kind of exposure to the market that I received while interning here is probably something that no other firm can offer. The degree of freedom and the level of responsibility given right from the planning to the execution phase of the project were remarkable and at times overwhelming. While most firms have a tight schedule for the interns to follow, here at CK Birla Group the intern is allowed to plan the project and set a schedule for its completion.
  During the course of this internship, I found myself in the role of a market researcher and a consultant while being in the entrepreneurial setting of a budding business. The insights generated and the recommendations are to be used by the SBU in understanding a new product category in a new market geography, which shows the level of trust that the firm places in its interns. The project has helped me develop a structured problem solving approach. I asked for a project that would help me test my skills but I got a project that helped me develop new ones. I am extremely satisfied at having completed my internship successfully but this would not have been possible without the continuous support of my team and the CK Birla Group.

  Summer Internship at Birlasoft

  "Deliverables set for me and the kind of work that has come through is better than comparable with the consulting firms"

  The internship has been a period of great learning for me. Right from the day at Birla Towers where I got an opportunity to interact with industry leaders and learn from their experiences to today where I’ve been a part of the transformational journey of the CK Birla Group. After having interacted with my peers in other consulting firms, I’ve found that the deliverables set for me and the kind of work that has come through is better than comparable with the consulting firms. I am able to see the kind of impact this internship has made for the organization and for me. Having worked closely on marketing strategy and creating strategy for the organization is not most interns get a chance to do. I have furthered my critical reasoning skills and have adapted to a new industry. It has been a great honour working with the group and would like to thank the group for this wonderful opportunity.

  Summer Internship at Group Transformation Office

  "My initial scepticism of an Internship Program has been soundly rebuffed"

  To be quite frank I joined this internship programme with expectations that were tempered after conversations with seniors. And it made sense, what can one learn and achieve in a mere two months? It gives me immense pleasure to say that my initial scepticism has been soundly rebuffed. Each day of this internship has been a learning experience and it is difficult to put a finger of every little thing that I have learned. A brief list that scarcely does justice to the rigor of the program with include communication skills that are suited to a business environment, owning my work streams, articulation of ideas and most importantly: getting things done – taking the leap from theory to practice. It has been a tough two months, but I am satisfied at having made the fullest use of the time available to me. I thank CK Birla Group for having accommodated me in a live project and for having displayed confidence in my abilities by giving me serious responsibilities.

  Summer Internship at Orient Electric

  "My experience with the group was enriching and humbling"

  My experience with CK Birla group was enriching, at the same time humbling. Enriching, because of the kind of project that was given to me. It taught me that in the real case scenario, your textbook knowledge is just taken for granted. I found that nothing but observations could help me. That is why experience is so highly regarded in any industry.
  Humbling, because everyone in the organisation were down-to-earth and extremely helpful in all respects. The kind of warmth that was extended to an intern was quite wonderful. I go home rich with the experience of working in an organisation of stalwarts, having made a lot of friends and having had a lot of fun while at it.

  Summer Internship at Group Transformation Office

  "For a fresh graduate like me, the internship exposure at the CK Birla Group, was a very big deal"

  The two months of summer internship at the CK Birla Group has been a great life lesson, not just in terms of gaining industry knowledge but also in learning work ethics and other softer intangible aspects. Having had no previous work experience, this internship was my first exposure to the corporate world and its bearings. With no benchmarks to base my expectations on, I was here two months ago with an open but also a slightly anxious mind.
  This opportunity for a fresh graduate like me, to put it lightly, was a very big deal. I got the opportunity to work in a great team with very experienced and knowledgeable team members. My guide Mr Anindya Das, mentor Mr Abhijit Midha, buddy Mr Vipul Jain and of course fellow intern Ashwin Ravi taught me a lot of valuable lessons with utmost patience. Mr Michael Joseph with his constant encouragement helped me keep my morale high throughout the two months. My key takeaways apart from the industry knowledge of course are team based approach to work, ownership and accountability for ones work stream, practical application of scholastic learnings in a competitive environment and certainly a phenomenal value addition to my capabilities and personality on the whole.

  Summer Internship at GMMCO

  "I got a chance to present my ideas and work with the CEO of the company"

  From the very day, CK Birla Group came for Pre-Placement Talk in IIMA; I was excited about the kind of projects and learning opportunities that the group had to offer me. The overall experience exceeded my expectation, whether it is the quality of project or the support from group head office and GMMCO Ltd.
  I learned about a new industry, challenges and opportunities in earth moving industry. The project was challenging as the market is price sensitive and it is very difficult to sell premium product to them. It was a learning experience to sell our product in such a market. I got a taste of the live deals when I was involved in lead generation by directly meeting the customers. I got a chance to present my ideas and work with the CEO of the company and his insights were extremely helpful. My mentor was there throughout the internship to guide me to the right direction. I enjoyed working here and I thank CK Birla Group for providing me with this opportunity. If given a choice I shall surely choose CK Birla Group to work for.

  Summer Internship at AVTEC

  "Importance of due diligence and the pleasant memories of working with AVTEC and the CK Birla Group"

  The learnings from this internship was immense whether it be in terms of knowledge about the market you are dealing with or be it the softer aspects like the art of collecting sensitive information. My project essentially dealt with estimation of Powertrain component market in both Automotive & Off-highway segment followed by positioning strategy. Also, I had to find out customer needs and competitors standings to aid me with the project. What I take back from this wide scoped project will be the importance of due diligence and the pleasant memories of working with the people at AVTEC and at the CK Birla Group.

Right from the very first day my journey starting from our interactions with Mrs and Mr CK Birla and CEOs of the group companies to my engagement with the leadership team at Birlasoft has been an exhilarating experience. At Birlasoft, I got an opportunity to work with the thought leaders in the IT industry. My interactions with the Office of Strategy Management have been highly rewarding and I take back with me the valuable knowledge on recent developments, latest trends and future roadmap to technology from a Supply Chain view point.
