The CK Birla Group has pioneered several firsts in India’s healthcare industry. Founded in 1989 in Kolkata, the BM Birla Heart Research Centre is the first NABH-accredited hospital exclusively for treatment and research related to heart disease. With a capacity of 150 beds, it is India’s first healthcare facility to be awarded ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 certifications.
By the end of 2012, experts at the centre had performed more than 19,000 cardiac surgeries and 80,000 catheterization procedures. Overall, the Centre has treated close to 120,000 inpatients and over a million outpatients.
The laboratory at the Centre is the first in India to be recognized by the National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and College of American Pathologists (CAP).
